Is you Ubunty Unity unresponsive and sluggish? We might have the cure!

A while back I decided to get my old laptop out of the closet. It is a dual core celeron with an Intel GMA4500 and 2GB memory which is perfect for day to day internet browsing and basic office tasks. Just like any other normal person I decided to load the latest Ubuntu to avoid having to pay additionl Windows licensing costs and also because Ubuntu and older laptops go toghether like beer and more beer.
So after Googlin' for minutes and minutes on end (it felt like hours though), I came accross this little fix.

Unfortunately I don't have the URL anymore but here are the steps to follow to get your Unity to run as smooth as one of those cats with no hair:

  1. Install CompizConfig Settings Manager from either the Software Center, or Synaptic.
  2. Click on the Composite tab, and un-check Detect refresh rate.
  3. Back to main menu.
  4. Click on the OpenGL tab.
  5. Uncheck Sync to Vblank.
I hope this worked as good for you as it did for me...
